Tomaž Barada
Tomaž Barada; he could also be called a Slovenian legend or an icon of martial arts, as he can proudly boast of being a multiple European and world champion in taekwon-do and kickboxing.
He was born on November 15th 1973 in Maribor. He began his sports career with gymnastics, which he attended during elementary school. After a rather difficult childhood, he had to go to live with his aunt in Vuzenica. All this time he was still going to Maribor, where one day he happened to be in the hall where they practiced taekwon-do. It was love at first sight. After a year and a half of training, he won the tournament and defeated the national champion from Pula, then still in the former Yugoslavia. He was noticed by the then selector Ante Nobilo, who immediately took him under his wing. Thus, he was constantly torn between Maribor and Zagreb.
As a 16-year-old boy, he finished second at the 1990 World Membership Championships. After the break-up of Yugoslavia, he decided to continue his career in Maribor, where he opened his club in 1991. He continued to string together enviable results around the world.
In 2004, he decided to end his competitive career and pursue a career as a professional coach. It is a great pleasure for him to teach new generations, who are already achieving good results. He also coached Dejan Zavec under his auspices. In addition to coaching and managing the sports centre, he also very successfully represents the position of vice-president of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia and president of the Maribor Sports Association. He is a senior sports coach by education.
